Despite conflicting theories, Harry and Meghan are most certainly invited to King Charles' coronation, according a source on the planning committee.

The invitations for the May ceremony will be going out this month, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly made the guest list.

An official involved in the planning committee told The Sun, "They will definitely be invited, and we are working on the assumption that they will come."

However, planners are also aware of the potential awkwardness a reunion could create on such an important day, with the source adding, "It would be helpful if they came earlier though so it's not a total circus on the day."

The King's coronation is planned for May 6th, 2023. It will be a 90-minute long ceremony in the historic Westminster Abbey, where all coronations of the past British monarchs have occurred for the past 900 years.

The King's coronation, unlike others before him, has been scaled back significantly, despite it being the first coronation in 70 years. While it will retain core elements such as the oath required by statute and the anointing with consecrated oil, the delivery of the orb and the enthroning itself, Charles' coronation will not have the pomp and circumstance his mother's had, in recognising current events such as the cost-of-living crisis in the UK.

In a statement Buckingham Palace said: "The coronation will reflect the monarch's role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.

It added: "The coronation is a solemn religious service, together with an occasion for celebration and pageantry.

"The ceremony has retained a similar structure for over a thousand years, and next year's coronation is expected to include the same core elements while recognising the spirit of our times."
