Rapper whose song lyrics used in racially charged article about Meghan weighs in

Rapper Ice Cube has weighed in on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, saying they would have achieved more if they had "stuck it out" in the royal family instead of resigning as working members of the monarchy in 2020.

"I think when you're in the house, you can make more changes to the house than when you're outside of the house," he told Good Morning Britain.

"That's just my opinion. If they stuck it out, then they might have been able to make some changes."

Ice Cube is in the UK for the launch of the 3x3 basketball league, BIG3, the first black-owned basketball sport league in the world.

It was the rapper's song that was quoted in a racially charged article about Meghan Markle that appeared in the MailOnline ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry, when she was referred to as being "straight outta Compton" which is also the name of the album by Ice Cube's former hip hop group N.W.A and released in 1988.

Ice Cube, whose real name is O'Shea Jackson, labelled the reference as "off colour."

"To have somebody say you come straight outta Compton, it has a tone of you come out of the hood or you come out of the ghetto – [there's] great people that come out of those places,' he said. "It was a very off-coloured [sic] joke."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have spoken openly about issues of race, including accusing a senior member of Prince Harry's family of making a racial comment about the possible colour of Archie's skin before his birth.

The couple, who made the claim during their sit down interview in 2021, refused to name the culprit.

Since then, Harry and Meghan have spoken opening about this dissatisfaction with their time as working member of the British royal family.

They left the UK and relocated to Montecito, California, where they live with their children Archie, four, and Lilibet, one.

Reports the couple's commercial endeavours in the US are flailing began with the end of their Spotify deal earlier this year which produced one joint episode released for Christmas and Meghan's podcast 'Archetypes.'

They still have a lucrative deal with Netflix, releasing their docu-series Harry & Meghan in 2022 and have reportedly bought the rights to Carley Fortune's best-selling novel Meet Me at the Lake which they plan to produce for the streaming giant.

There is speculation Meghan plans to relaunched her lifestyle website, The Tig, which she abandoned after becoming engaged to Harry in 2017.
