Harry and Meghan accused of trying to 'create drama' by 'dragging out' coronation decision

Harry and Meghan have been accused of trying to "create drama" by "dragging out" their coronation decision, despite the deadline for RSVPs reportedly having passed.

It is understood the cut-off for RSVPs was April 3, although close family has been given more time to decide. The coronation of King Charles III takes place in the UK on May 6.

"It's to their advantage to drag out whether or not they will attend," leading publicity expert Matt Yanofsky has told the Mirror.

"If they instantly declined, the story would have died after a few days. If they RSVP'd, they'd get a tad more press in the lead-up, but it would lack the drama of a will-they-or-won't-they scenario."

He said by "holding off on making a choice" they are creating the "most drama and speculation."

"If you're someone whose main PR move is to create drama, this is the correct move," he continued.

"This is what a soap opera character would do, and they are essentially real-life Royal soap opera stars."

He said if he were advising them, he would recommend they attend the historic event.

"They've sold most of the drama they have to sell about the royals," he explained. "They need a new storyline and attending would be a story."

He added that by not attending, they would risk "backlash."

The coronation will be attended by royals from around the world including Australian-born Princess Mary of Denmark alongside husband Crown Prince Frederik, the Danish royal household has confirmed.

The Swedish royal household has also confirmed King Carl XVI Gustaf will attend, accompanied by his daughter Crown Princess Victoria instead of his wife Queen Silvia of Sweden.

The Japanese Imperial Household Agency confirmed Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko will make a four-day trip to London for the ceremony, Kyodo News reported.

Prince Albert of Monaco and his wife Princess Charlene had already confirmed their attendance to the event during an interview earlier this year.

Spain's King Felipe is also set to attend his distant cousin's coronation along with wife Queen Letizia, the Spanish royal household has confirmed according to local media.
