Mick Jagger and Elton John amongst surprise celebrity guests at the royal family's State Banquet
A who's who of figures from the entertainment and sporting worlds have united at Windsor Castle for the British royal family's State Banquet.
The State Banquet, which is under way right now in St George's Hall, Windsor, about an hour from London, is part of an official State Visit in honour of the French President.
Musicians turned noblemen Sir Elton John and Sir Mick Jagger, frontman of rock band The Rolling Stones, are among the throng of celebrities invited to the banquet.

They were supported by their long-time partners; David Furnish, whom Sir Elton married in 2014, and Melanie Hamrick, Sir Mick's fiancée and mother of his youngest son Deveraux, who was born in 2016.
An animated Sir Mick was seen inside the banquet greeting another of the 160 attendees at the event.
Another notable inclusion reportedly on the guest list was English actress Dame Kristin Scott Thomas, of Four Weddings and a Funeral fame.

The sporting world was also represented, with women's footballer Mary Earp, who vice-captained the 2023 English Women's World Cup side, in attendance.
She was pictured inside the banquet chatting to the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The State Banquet is being hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Other senior members of the royal family in attendance include the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

Earlier in the day, Prince William and Catherine were on hand to greet the French president and his wife as part of their State Visit.
According to the Royal Family's official website, the President and Mrs Macron were greeted by the Prince and Princess of Wales, on behalf of The King, ahead of the official welcome ceremony in Windsor.
On their arrival in Windsor Town Centre, the King and Queen greeted their guests before boarding carriages which took them through crowds in the town and up the iconic Long Walk to Windsor Castle.

A spectacular official arrival ceremony then took place in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle before President Macron was invited to inspect a Guard of Honour.
Following a private lunch, the King and Queen invited the President and Mrs Macron to view a display of French items from the Royal Collection, which included an English glass believed to be the earliest champagne glass in existence.
Both couples then retired to get ready for the lavish State Banquet.
