Outrage over taxpayer cost of Harry and Meghan’s home refurb

Residents of the UK are outraged after learning how much of their taxpayer dollars (or pounds) were channelled into the renovation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new home.

According to accounts released on Monday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have spent almost AU$4.4million on upgrading Frogmore Cottage, their Windsor residence.

It’s reported the 19^th century cottage had been converted to five smaller houses, and once the Sussexes decided they would like to move in earlier this year, it had to be converted into one large house yet again.

The renovation included new bathrooms and kitchen, installation of floating floorboards, new eco-heating, full electrical rewiring, new gas and water mains and a complete redecoration.

Officials insist Frogmore Cottage had been marked for renovation before Harry and Meghan decided it would be their new home, and that the cost equated to $2.20 per British citizen.

Previously, it was reported that the renovations would cost almost double, however those figures were quickly quashed.

Sources close to the couple also shut down rumours that they were building a yoga studio or mother-and-baby yoga room.

Anti-monarchy campaigners Republic called for a full parliamentary inquiry into royal spending after the release of the accounts. However, friends of the Sussexes told the Dail Mail that Frogmore Cottage was relatively small, with just four bedrooms and a nursery, adding: “It really isn't as grand as some people might think.

“There's no wing for Doria, no yoga studio. It's a fairly cosy family home.”
