Danish heartthrob Prince Nikolai celebrates 21st birthday

Prince Nikolai of Denmark has celebrated turning 21, the Danish royal family sharing a stunning portrait to mark the occasion.

Nephew to Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, Nikolai is currently seventh in line to the Danish throne.

Though it's unlikely he'll ever wear the crown, the young prince has built a reputation for himself in Denmark and abroad.

Known for his stunning good looks, Nikolai signed with a modelling agency in 2018 and has since walked the catwalk for Burberry and Dior.

It should come as no surprise that his new birthday portrait shows off some of his modelling talent in which he posed expertly for the close-up shot.

Fans swooned over his looks in the comments section of the royal family's post, wishing the prince a happy 21^st.

The eldest son of Prince Joachim and his first wife Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg, Nikolai was holidaying in France with his family when his father experienced a medical emergency in July.

Joachim was rushed to hospital and underwent emergency surgery for a blood clot in his brain last month.

Following the procedure, doctors revealed that "the blood clot in the brain was due to a sudden dissection of an artery" and believe that once healed, the condition shouldn't return.

He was discharged in early August and is understood to be recovering at home with his family.

Prince Joachim's wife, Princess Marie, 44, has been by his side throughout the health scare and the couple said that they "would like to take this opportunity to thank the hospital staff involved for a professional course".

Also on the holiday was Nikolai's younger brother, Prince Felix, who celebrated his own birthday last month.

The 18-year-old prince shares his older brother's good looks and even posed for a birthday portrait with him, which was shared to Instagram for his birthday.
