Princess Eugenie has joined a fitness challenge in the UK to raise money for NHS workers on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic.

The royal took to Instagram to reveal that she was participating in the £5 for 5k Run For Heroes challenges, which sees participants donating money towards supporting NHS workers while also promoting the challenge.

Eugenie shared a selfie on an evening run on Friday, tagging the @Run.For.Heroes account and encouraging her followers to join the challenge.

Participants run, walk or cycle 5km as their daily exercise, while observing social distancing rules, then donate £5 to the NHS.

It is thought that Eugenie may have been nominated to join the challenge by pal Ellie Goulding, who also participated before nominating three friends without revealing their names.

The princess has been self-isolating for the past weeks as the UK continues to observe lockdown restrictions as the nation works to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

She is the latest in a long list of royals who have voiced their support for NHS workers on the frontlines of the pandemic. Last month, Prince William and Kate Middleton visited an NHS centre to meet with workers there.

Eugenie also recently worked with her mother, Sarah, Duchess of York, to put together care packages for NHS workers.

Taking to Instagram, the duchess thanked German confectionery entrepreneur and friend Hermann Bühlbecker for showing support to "hard workers in the UK", sharing a photo of herself with a box of treats.

Bühlbecker then reposted the images, writing, "A few days ago Fergie, Duchess of York, and her daughter received a large delivery of Lambertz pastries (over 100 kg) at the Royal Lodge. This is intended for the doctors and staff of London hospitals, who are currently working up to their limits."

The mother and daughter are understood to be self-isolating together at their family residence, The Royal Lodge, in Windsor.
