Princess Diana's brother Charles Spencer confirms divorce from third wife

Charles Spencer and his third wife Karen Gordon are calling it quits after 13 years.

Earl Spencer, who is the brother of the late Princess Diana, confirmed the divorce news.

"It is immensely sad," he told The Daily Mail.

"I just want to devote myself to all my children, and to my grandchildren, and I wish Karen every happiness in the future," he added.

According to the publication, the news was shared with staff at their Althorp residence back in March.

Spencer and Gordon tied the knot 13 years ago in 2011 and welcomed their daughter Charlotte Diana just a year later in 2012.

Neither Spencer nor Gordon have personally addressed the news on their social media accounts as of yet.

Over the weekend, the Countess Spencer shared a short scenic clip of the estate with the caption "beautiful windy day for a walk in the Park" and a single red heart emoji.

The 9th Earl Spencer also posted a clip to his Instagram story on Sunday AEDT revealing he was at the Rugby Premiership match with his sons.

The couple's divorce news comes just three weeks after Spencer celebrated his 60th birthday, which he marked with an Instagram post.

The now estranged couple previously attended Spencer's nephew Prince Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle back in 2018 together.

Before his relationship with Gordon, Spencer had been married twice before.

Spencer first married Victoria Aitken in 1989 before the couple called it quits in 1997.

The pair share four children together, including Lady Kitty Spencer and their twin daughters Lady Eliza and Lady Amelia Spencer.

Earlier this year Spencer's daughter Lady Kitty secretly welcomed her first child with husband Michael Lewis after tying the knot in 2021.

Spencer's other daughter Lady Amelia married her longtime partner last year near Cape Town in South Africa, which her father was not in attendance for.

After his first marriage ended, Spencer wed Caroline Freud in 2001 until 2007 and welcomed two children with his second wife.
