Catherine, Princess of Wales 'on the mend' as she leaves the house for first time post-surgery

Catherine, Princess of Wales seems to be on the mend, with news that she will be joining her family for a trip to the countryside.

According to an inside source, the royal will be travelling with her husband Prince William and children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, to the royal family's estate in Sandringham.

The children have their half-term holiday, for which William has also taken the week off after a brief return to the spotlight for an air ambulance charity event, where he had met up with Tom Cruise.

"Catherine is recovering well," a source told royal author Richard Eden. "She was looking forward to a change of scene and will be able to take it easy in Norfolk while the children let off steam with William."

The royal has spent twelve weeks recovering at home in Adelaide Cottage in Windsor following her discharge from the London Clinic. She stayed in the medical facility for almost two weeks, recovering from abdominal surgery.

She is not expected to return to public engagements until after Easter, Kensington Palace confirmed.

Once in Sandringham it is expected they will meet with King Charles, as it is the same place he headed to recuperate following his own treatment to his enlarged prostate, done at the same hospital, where he was discharged from on January 29.

It was where her remained when news of his cancer diagnosis was revealed earlier this week.

Almost a week on, the monarch has addressed the diagnosis in a statement.

As per Buckingham Palace, the monarch wrote, "I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days.

"As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.

"It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organisations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and wider world.
