Camilla's cousin found dead in hotel room after messy divorce battle

The Duchess of Cornwall's family have received the sad news that one of their own has been found dead in a London hotel.

The body of Charles Villiers, a cousin of Camilla, was found by a housekeeper after checking into the Durrants Hotel.

Villiers, 59, had been in a long-running divorce battle with his estranged wife, Emma.

He had lost the most recent round of divorce case spanning eight years in June, with a complicated financial settlement still unresolved.

A London court recently head that Villiers had had been "financially ruined" and "psychologically damaged" by the the case.

He'd accused his wife of bigamy and fraud while she accused him of being a dishonest bully.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said officers had been called by the London Ambulance Service on August 18 to a hotel on George Street.

"At the scene a man, aged in his 50s, was found deceased," she said.

"At this time the man's death is being treated as unexpected.

"It has been investigated and is not suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner."

The High Court had ruled Villiers could not afford to pay the nearly $7 million that his estranged wife was seeking.

In January last year the High Court found that Villiers, a former racehorse owner who worked in publishing, was heavily in debt and was believed to have been sleeping on friends' lounges.

He was due to receive help for mental health issues in London.
