Ever found yourself in a situation so overwhelming, you're tempted to simply drop to the ground and crawl away?

Nathan Grant can relate—but unlike most of us, he acted on the urge.

The nine-year-old was one of a group of people gathered to meet Queen Elizabeth II when she paid a visit to a children's charity in London last week.

Standing with his parents, Nathan's looked nervous as Her Majesty, 92, made her way along the line of families at the Thomas Coram Foundation for Children.

Eventually, she reached the boy and his parents, striking up a conversation with his mother.

However, the moment Nathan's mum introduced him to the Queen proved a little too much for the nine-year-old.

Before Her Majesty even had a chance to speak a word to Nathan, he lowered himself to the ground and squeezed between Mum and Dad's legs before crawling away to another room.

Once there, he delivered a succinct parting message: "Bye!"

(Now that is how you smokebomb from a social event.)

If Nathan's mum was embarrassed, she didn't let it show, simply explaining to the monarch: "That's his version of a bow."

The cute (not to mention highly relatable) moment also prompted a ripple of laughter from everyone present, no doubt relieving the nerves that accompany a meeting with the Queen of England.

Even Her Majesty seemed unfazed by Nathan's swift departure; after all, she's seen plenty of unexpected moments like these in her years of meeting members of the public.

Remember that time a Shetland pony tried to eat (yep, eat) her bouquet outside Stirling Castle last year?

Plus, as a great-grandma to the likes of Prince George and Princess Charlotte, she's undoubtedly accustomed to children and all their kooky antics.

As for Nathan, we have no doubt this adorable footage will be making an appearance at his 21st.
