Boris Johnson sidesteps question about British Royal Family during US trip

Boris Johnson had the perfect — and very diplomatic — response when asked about the British Royal Family during a sit down with a group of US senators.

The UK Prime Minister was asked about The Firm on his visit to Washington, DC, but Johnson refused to be answer the question.

"On your question about the royal family, I get a free pass on that one, I have a total get out of jail free card as Prime Minister, I never say anything about the royal family," he said.

It's not known what the question was regarding but given the year the royals have had it could have been anything from Harry and Meghan's recent TIME Magazine cover to the Queen's presence as the G7 summit in June or right across to allegations earlier this year of racism within the royal family.

However it's been reported that later in the conversation Johnson was heard saying Netflix drama The Crown is "totally inaccurate".

Also during his US visit, the UK Prime Minister finally confirmed a long-standing rumour that he is the father of six children — including a daughter as the result of an extra-marital affair.

Johnson has four children with his ex-wife Marina Wheeler, one daughter from the affair, and a son with his wife Carrie Johnson, whom he married in May.

The newlyweds recently announced they are expecting their second child, following a devastating miscarriage earlier in the year.

Speaking to NBC's Today show on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Johnson said it was "fantastic" having a baby in 10 Downing Street, but that it was also "a lot of work."

"But I absolutely love it," he added. "I change a lot of nappies."

The number of children sired by Johnson has been a talking point in British politics for many years after an English court discharged an injunction banning news organisations from reporting the existence of a daughter as the result of an extra-marital affair.

It's unclear why Johnson decided now to confirm the existence of a child he has avoided talking about.
