Our favourite royal looks of the year: From crown jewels to glamorous gowns
It has been a busy year for royals around the world, from weddings to overseas tours and taking on new roles and titles.
And that means plenty of extravagant jewels and glamorous gowns, some with special hidden meanings.

Queen Mary of Denmark
January 14 marked the beginning of a new era for Denmark's royal family, with King Frederik X and Australian-born Queen Mary officially proclaimed King and Queen.
Mary wore a white gown by designer Soeren Le Schmidt paired with Danish Ruby Parure Earrings for the historic moment she stepped out on the balcony with her family.
But there was one special detail in the dress that you probably wouldn't pick up on just from looking at it.
Mary's proclamation dress was reportedly sewn by Birgit Hallstein, the same designer and dressmaker who worked on her 2004 wedding gown (pictured).
Another standout from Mary's 2024 wardrobe her official gala portrait as Queen of Denmark.
Mary stunned in a green velvet gown with sheer sleeves, wearing the Danish Emerald Parure tiara for the first time.
If you look closesly at her dress, you will notice a brooch, known as the Ordensportrættet, pinned to her top that featured a portrait of her husband.

In a nod to her Aussie roots, Queen Mary wore a dress by Sydney label Zimmermann for a lunch at Skovpavillionen in Assens, Denmark.
The royal paired the Aussie designer's Veneto patterned dress with a chic Ralph Lauren blazer over the top.
Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh
Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh was another royal to wear the Aussie label for a public appearance this year.
The royal wore the Matchmaker floral linen and silk midi dress by Zimmermann, retailed for around $1350, to the Order Of The Garter Service at Windsor Castle in June.
She paired the floral look with a tilted hat.

The Duchess of Edinburgh has had many striking looks this year as she's stepped further and further into the spotlight.
One standout was this simple but beautiful blue gown, courtesy of designer Roland Mouret, which she wore to the Sovereign's Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in July.
She paired the dress with a statement hat.
While it appeared to be a classic ensemble for a royal outing, the look turned heads for one particular reason.
Sophie's dress was a similar colour to what Queen Camilla wore for the event.
Why does this matter?
Meghan Markle previously claimed the royals can't wear the same colour as the Queen if attending a group event.
