All the details of Archie's first birthday celebration

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor has turned one, and his parents, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, did their best to mark the occasion, despite continuing coronavirus restrictions.

People reports that Prince Harry, 35, and Meghan Markle, 38, pulled out all the stops to make it memorable for their son, including ordering a 'smash cake' that the toddler must have enjoyed destroying to reveal the treats inside.

A first birthday isn't complete without a photo of the birthday child covered in cake, but alas, we'll have to imagine that one as photos are yet to be released.

According to People, the waning royals were joined by family and friends on Zoom. It is understood that the call may have included members of the British royal family including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, five and Prince Louis, one, as well as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

Prince Charles and wife Camilla may have dialled in from isolation in Scotland.

And Meghan's mother Doria Ragland is sure to have dialled in from her Californian home right around the corner from where the Duke and Duchess are staying.

It is understood that the couple are house-hunting, ready to settle down in the US following their split from the royal family, effective as of April 1.

Instead of a traditional series of birthday photos, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a video showing Meghan reading the book Duck! Rabbit! to her son who is clearly delighted with choice, helping his mum turn the pages.

A sticker on the cover of the book read 'Archie's Bookclub', signifying it was a gift from TV mogul Oprah Winfrey.

The video was released to raise funds for the charity Save the Children and was shared on Instagram. The charity has been working to provide vulnerable families with basic food items during the coronavirus pandemic.

It has been reported that the video raised £40,000 (AUD $76,000) for the organisation.
