Prince Harry's close friend revealed as one of Archie's godfathers

One of Prince Harry's closest friends has been named godfather to Archie Harrison Mounbatten-Windsor.

That's despite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanting to keep the identity of their son's godparents a secret.

Charlie Van Straubenzee is believed to be one of Archie's godfathers, reports The Sunday Times.

He and his older brother, Thomas, were ushers at Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding in May, 2018, where Charlie reportedly poked fun at the groom during a speech at the evening reception inside Frogmore House.

Speaking of their days at boarding school Charlie said of Harry, "All I wanted was a cuddle from my mummy. Instead, Harry nicked my teddy bear and chucked it out onto the roof." Charlie is also said to have made fun of Harry's "ginger" hair.

In August, Harry and Meghan were spotted attending Charlie's wedding to Daisy Jenks at St. Mary the Virgin Church in Frensham, Surrey, south of London.

Harry, and his brother Prince William, have long been friends with Charlie and Thomas, having played together at Prince Charles' Highgrove estate as children.

Harry and Charlie were also schoolmates, attending Ludgrove Prep School in Berkshire.

Through the years, the princes and the brothers have been spotted attending many events together, including polo and rugby matches.

Another of Archie's godparents is thought to be Tiggy Pettifer, the former nanny of Harry and William, according to The Sunday Times which reports she was seen at Windsor Castle on the day of the baptism, July 6.

Harry is godfather to her son Fred, while William is godfather to Pettifer's other son, Tom.

The youngest member of the British royal family – and seventh in line to the throne – is likely to have numerous godfathers and godmothers. Prince Charles, for instance, has eight of them.

But, "in keeping with their wishes", the Duke and Duchess have insisted that the names of Archie's godparents will remain hidden - in a major break from traditional royal christenings.
