Run-down farm being renovated for Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on King's Sandringham estate

A run-down farm on the King's Sandringham estate is being refurbished and renovated amid speculation it will soon be home to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

In October, the 65-year-old was stripped of all his royal titles including Duke of York and that of prince following anger over his past relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Buckingham Palace also announced Andrew would vacate Royal Lodge, in Windsor, as part of measures to remove his remaining royal privileges.

He has lived at the royal estate since 2003 along with ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, who is in the process of finding her own accommodation now the lease is being handed back early.

Andrew is expected to move from the 31-bedroom property by February but will miss out on $1m compensation for breaking his lease on the home, owing to the amount of repairs needed on the heritage-listed building.

King Charles is funding his brother's move to Sandringham, in Norfolk, however it remains unclear which property Andrew will move into.

There is speculation he will be housed in Marsh Farm, located around 12 kilometres west of Sandringham House where the King and Queen, and the rest of the royal family, celebrate Christmas every year.

The property is currently empty but its two reception rooms, and kitchen, at the front of the house, need extensive work before it is deemed liveable.

A no-fly zone has recently been extended to cover the area over the former farm, according to reports in The Sun.

The King's $120m Sandringham estate is one of two private estates owned by the monarch, including Balmoral in Scotland.

A palace source told the paper that Andrew was a "private citizen" and Sandringham was a "private estate".

"There are GDPR [General Data Protection Regulation] and rights of privacy involved so we will not be providing the name of the property", the source said.

"There are also security issues that are of relevance".

An insider added: "Andrew has been told he is off to Marsh Farm. It needs an awful lot of work to be done before it's habitable.

"It means we could be waiting a long time before he ever leaves Royal Lodge."

Last week the Crown Estate revealed that Andrew could remain in Royal Lodge until October, 2026, if he chooses.

He served notice the property on October 30 this year, with a minimum of 12 months' notice under the terms of his lease.

However, he is expected to move out in the first quarter of 2026 after the King and his family have Christmas at Sandringham.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed it will drop its investigation into reports that Andrew asked his taxpayer-funded bodyguard to investigate his accuser, Virginia Giuffre in 2011.

In October, a leaked email revealed that Andrew passed him Giuffre's date of birth and social security number.

He then allegedly told Buckingham Palace aide Ed Perkins, who at the time was Elizabeth II's deputy press secretary, that he had asked one of his personal protection officers to dig up information about Giuffre.

On Sunday, Central Specialist Crime Commander Ella Marriott said the force would not launch an investigation after assessing the claims.

Giuffre's family said they were "deeply disappointed" by the decision and that they "feel justice has not been served".

Giuffre, who was Epstein's most vocal survivor, died by suicide in April.
