Pregnant AFLW star Renee Garing reveals skin cancer diagnosis and surgery just weeks before giving birth
AFLW player Renee Garing has shared the shock news of a skin cancer diagnosis as she went through the last stage of her pregnancy.
Taking to Instagram, the Geelong player shared her experience in a lengthy caption.
Sharing a photo of herself and husband Tony sunbaking on holiday in Mexico in 2015, the athlete wrote, "Skin cancer. Melanoma. Not something I expected to hear at 36 years old or 33 weeks pregnant."

"Thankful to have caught this early and it's not invasive. Hopefully all has been cut out and gone. Plenty of stitches and a decent scar to be left in place of the mole as a good reminder for the future. It'll be multiple skin checks per year for a while and then yearly for life," she shared.
The 36-year-old shared that she was prompted to get her skin checked when her husband's workplace had their yearly checks, encouraging others to do the same.
"If you haven't already started to do this as this can happen to anyone. In Australia, sadly about 2 in every 3 people will get diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime," she wrote.
"I've always loved being out in the sunshine. I've loved laying by the pool/beach (flashback to Mexico 2015), going for walks, enjoy my job being outdoors a lot of the time and playing sport out in the fresh air. Seems that all this combined has led to this diagnosis," she continued.
"I know I'll be extra vigilant moving forward. If this post encourages one person to go and get a check, then I will be happy," she said.
This marks her second pregnancy, already sharing two-year-old son Parker with her husband.
