From triumph to tragedy: Woman shot dead hours after posting rags to riches tale on Facebook

A 33-year-old mother-of-three reflected on her hard work in a post on Facebook, bursting with pride at how far she'd come, having been homeless just two years earlier and encouraging others to never give up.

But just hours later, Makeva Jenkins was shot dead in her home.

Family fear the Facebook post, admitting to making a "multi six figure" salary, was linked to her murder.

According to The Palm Beach Post, a masked man knocked on her front door at 2am on Thursday and after entering her house, where others were awake inside, it's understood an altercation took place and the businesswoman was shot.

She was rushed to hospital but died of her injuries.

The man fled in one of the family's vehicles, which was found abandoned nearby.

Police are still unsure if Makeva was in fact the intended target of the masked intruder.

The 33-year-old, who married Euri Jenkins in 2011, leaves behind a 13-year-old daughter, seven-year-old son and one-year-old daughter.

"In this message I was inquiring about Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University offered through her church. I couldn't even afford $99 at that time.

"Fast forward to now: We overcame being homeless in 2013/2014 to reaching my six figure mark in 2015 to now making multi six figures. 

"No matter what the road looked like, I followed my heart and stuck with it growing my business.

"I'm saying this to say, anyone can do it. It takes determination and consistency."

Police are continuing to investigate.
