Queen's old Christmas cards expected to fetch thousands of dollars

Christmas cards sent by the Queen and Prince Philip and Prince Charles over the past 20 years are up for auction.

The special cards were sent to a worker on the royal estate of Sandringham in Norfolk and feature photos of the royals.

One card include a picture of the Queen feeding a banana to an elephant, while another shows her with her corgis.

One, from 1999, features a photo of the couple with the Queen Mother, who died in 2002.

More than 20 cards are signed, separately, by the Queen and Prince Philip, with some also from Prince Charles for sale.

Each card is expected to fetch $180 during the sale on Saturday in Cambridge, UK, adding up to thousands of dollars.

Roddy Lloyd, managing director of Rowley Fine Art, which is selling the cards expects there to be "an enormous amount of interest," among collectors.

"Many of the collectors are in the US and their interest has increased since Prince Harry moved there," he said.

"They have been consigned by a former worker at Sandringham who clearly knew the family well.

"There is a full run of Christmas cards from the Queen and Prince Philip from 1998 until the present.

"And there are also several cards from Prince Charles which show lovely pictures of him and his two sons.

"We anticipate a lot of interest in these and they are in excellent condition, as if they have just been pulled from the envelope."
