Queen's attendance at Prince Philip's memorial hangs in the balance: 'She's almost 96'

As Prince Philip's memorial nears, the European monarchs have publicly confirmed their attendance, but Queen Elizabeth's presence now 'hangs in the balance', a royal expert claims.

The memorial which will take place on March 29 will see the likes of royals including the Kings and Queens of The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Belgium in attendance.

In April last year, a funeral for The Duke of Edinburgh's was held at Windsor Castle. However, in the midst of the pandemic, rules stipulated that only 30 people could attend.

This year's memorial will provide an opportunity for Philip's friends and dignitaries from across the world to remember him.

Given the state of her health, Queen Elizabeth's attendance is still in question.

During a segment on True Royalty TV's, Russell Myers told The Royal Beat, "You have to be realistic. [She is] just weeks away from 96, she has accepted her own limitations."

"She's having issues moving around, [and is] described by people at the Palace as having good days and less good days…" he said. "Will she make Prince Philip's memorial service in a few days? That's in the balance."

While the Queen's attendance is unconfirmed, there are a host of European royals set to arrive in London to attend the service next week. Among them are Sweden's King Carl and Queen Silvia, Norway's King Harald and Queen Sonja and King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain.

Princess Beatrix, the former Queen of The Netherlands, will also be joined by her son, King Willem-Alexander, and his wife, Queen Maxima at the event.

Also making an appearance at the service is Prince Radu and Margareta, Custodian of the Crown of Romania.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium have confirmed that they will attend and will pay their respects at the event, in addition to Queen Margrethe of Denmark.

Prince Harry revealed last week he had decided not to return to the UK for Prince Philip's memorial service amid security fears.

The Duke of Sussex, 37, was expected to fly home for the service, however he announced earlier this month that he would not be attending.

A spokesperson confirmed Prince Harry will remain in the US but "hopes to visit the Queen as soon as possible", royal journalist Omid Scobie reported.
