Prince William takes on royal knighting duties, honouring Ringo Starr

Prince William has taken on some of his grandmother and father’s duties by taking part in the investiture ceremonies; knighting Beatles legend Ringo Starr.

The second-in-line to the throne stood in for Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace, rewarding Starr, among others, for his services to music.

Starr and the other members of the Beatles were first given MBEs in 1965, however Sir Paul McCartney was knighted first, back in 1997.

When asked by the BBC about his plans for the medal that goes along with the title, Starr had the best answer. “I’ll be wearing it at breakfast,” he joked to reporters. When asked whether he’ll be using his new title, he replied that he didn’t know how to yet, but joked with a reporter, “But I expect you to use it.”

However, he also admitted to feeling “a bit shaky on my own” without fellow bandmates.

The Knighthood was announced in December. At the time, Starr said, “It’s an honor and a pleasure to be considered and acknowledged for my music and my charity work, both of which I love.

“Peace and love. Ringo.”

While Starr admitted to feeling nervous, the same probably can’t be said about Prince William, who is becoming a dab hand at knighting. He first took the honour from Queen Elizabeth in 2013 as he began to take on more formal royal duties.
