Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles share birthday messages for Prince George's birthday

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles have shared social media messages for Prince George's birthday.

George celebrated his eighth birthday on July 22 with a photo of the beaming royal shared on his parent's official social media accounts on Twitter and Instagram at The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Next to the photo the post read: "Turning eight(!) tomorrow."

This was shared by Queen Elizabeth on Twitter the following day along with the caption: "Wishing Prince George a very happy 8th birthday today!" with a red balloon and a birthday cake emoji.

Her Majesty's post was soon followed by Prince Charles, who also shared the original post on Twitter with the caption: "A very happy birthday Prince George!" alongside a red balloon emoji.

Royal fans also showered Prince George with well wishes on the day, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge thanking them for their birthday messages.

"Thank you for all your lovely messages on Prince George's eighth birthday!" they said on Twitter.

Prince George has recently completed Year 3 at Thomas's Battersea school which is also attended by his younger sister Princess Charlotte, six.

Prince Louis, three, attends London's Willcocks Nursery School.

Queen Elizabeth is known to be a doting great grandmother and Prince Charles an equally doting grandfather to the Cambridge children. The royal family hasn't seen Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son Archie, two, in person since the family moved to Canada and then the US following their split from the monarchy.

The coronavirus pandemic then made travel more difficult.

Prince Harry has returned to the UK twice since the split - once for Prince Philip's funeral in April 2021 and again for the unveiling of a statue of Princess Diana in July 2021.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their daughter Lilibet on June 4. As restrictions begin to lift in the UK there is speculation the family head across the pond to introduce Lilibet to her great grandmother, grandfather and cousins.
