Camilla leaves royal tour with Prince Charles early

Mystery surrounds the departure of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, from her latest royal tour with Prince Charles.

Prince Charles has been spotted arriving at Lagos airport in Nigeria solo during what was expected to be a nine-day tour of West Africa by the royal couple.

Camilla, 71, also left the pair’s Australian tour early in April this year.

A royal insider has told Express it could be because the Duchess of Cornwall "doesn't want to take too much on".

Ahead of the Australian tour, the source added: "The Duchess doesn't want this, she does get tired.

“When they visit Australia on a tour the Duchess is coming back early. The schedule is too much for her, as she's 70 years old. She doesn't want to take on too much."

A Clarence House spokesperson has previously explained Camilla also doesn't like flying.

The couple's current tour began in Gambia on October 31, before travelling to Ghana on November 2 and to Nigeria on November 6.

The royal couple then touched down in Abuja on November 6, however were forced to pull out of an engagement in the city of Jos due to an outbreak of violence.

In Accra, the Ghanaian capital, Prince Charles gave a speech about the threat of climate change and his concerns for the future, adding that he worries about his grandchildren and environmental issues such as plastic pollution.

Clarence House has published a video of the royal couple dancing alongside the President and First Lady of Ghana, however are yet to comment on Camilla's departure from the tour.
