An Olympic fencer has revealed she competed at Paris 2024 while seven months pregnant and couldn't be more proud.

Egypt's Nada Hafez made the surprising revelation on Instagram after putting on a solid show at the women's individual sabre competition, where she made it to the last 16.

"What appears to you as two players on the podium, they were actually three! It was me, my competitor, [and] my yet-to-come to our world, little baby!" she wrote in an emotional Instagram post.

The mum-to-be first squared off against Elizabeth Tartakovsky of the United States and won 15-13, then faced down Jeon Hayoung of South Korea.

Unfortunately, she was defeated 15-7 at the Grand Palais in Paris – but Hafez didn't let the loss spoil her joy after competing.

"My baby [and] I had our fair share of challenges, be it both physical [and] emotional," she continued.

"The rollercoaster of pregnancy is tough on its own, but having to fight to keep the balance of life [and] sports was nothing short of strenuous, however worth it."

"I'm lucky to have shared the trust of my husband @ibrahimihab11 and that of my family to be able to come this far," Hafez wrote.

"This specific Olympics was different; Three times *Olympian* but this time carrying a little Olympian one!"

She and husband Ibrahim Ihab are expecting their first child in just a few months' time and couldn't be more excited to welcome the little one into the world.

Ihab is also an athlete, playing basketball at home in Egypt, though his day job is as a cardiothoracic surgeon. Talk about a talented couple.

They wed in February 2023 and celebrated a year of marriage in early 2024. They likely learned they were expecting around the same time.
