A man has pledged to change his online dating pickup line after being outed by a prospective date for having used the same one on her friend.

Far from being embarrassed by the encounter, the man, Shaun McLaren, has outed himself on Twitter after the exchange.

He has posted a photo of the pickup line left as a comment on the woman's photo on the online dating app Hinge, including her response.

The pickup line reads, "This is hands down the nicest picture I've seen in my entire hinge career x", to which the woman responds, "You said this to my friend as well ahahahahahah."

McLaren shared the exchange along with the caption: "Probably time I came up with a new opener....your boy's been absolutely rumbled."

The man's Twitter followers have shared his amusement.

One suggests, "Just say her friends was .... but now you have seen hers .. she is down to second place."

"I mean to be fair you can use the same line if every girl just gets nicer and nicer you're not technically lying. It's food for thought, I'll leave it with you!" another says.

One Twitter follower continues this train of though, writing, "What if they are getting progressively better looking the longer your on hinge for?"

Another says, "Could've saved it mate, then I saw you."

"I've been in that exact same situation," says another.

What does emerge as the conversation continues on Twitter is that McLaren isn't the only culprit when it comes to using the same pickup line on multiple people while online dating.

"Guilty," one admits.
