Newsreader loses front tooth on air, acts as if nothing happened

It seems there's no time left for the tooth fairy in 2020.

A Ukrainian newsreader has lost part of her tooth live on air, but managed to remain calm, collected and capture the fallen item during the report.

Marichka Padalko, a veteran reporter of more than 20 years, was delivering an update on the coronavirus crisis when part of her front right tooth wriggled loose.

Padalko discreetly put her hand to her mouth and caught the tooth, continuing the broadcast like a true professional, with no visible reaction to the bizarre incident.

Her antics were so smooth, many people did not even notice she had resumed her report with a fallen tooth in her hand.

However, a few eagle-eyed viewers spotted the moment and posted about it on social media.

"A new anxiety dream to add to the list…" wrote one user on Twitter.

"This is like something out of Dr Who," commented another.

A colleague of Padalko's even said she reacted as if she "loses her teeth every day."

The Ukranian presenter addressed the incident in a post on her Instagram.

"Yes I really lost part of my front tooth today," she confirmed.

Labelling it her "most curious experience in 20 years as a presenter," Padalko added, "Live broadcasting is wonderful because it is always unpredictable."

The mother of three explained the likely reason she lost her tooth on-air was related to an accident involving her young daughter more than 10 years ago.

While Padalko was sleeping, her child grabbed a heavy metal alarm clock from her windowsill and began swinging it around as if it were a toy when part of it hit her in the mouth, damaging the front tooth.

Having decided to do a "radical repair" on the tooth recently, Padalko told her Instagram followers she'd forgotten to avoid biting food with her front teeth until the end of treatment.

The journalist added that she thought the 'lost tooth' incident would go unnoticed during the broadcast but she "underestimated the attentiveness of our viewers".

"In any situation, we keep calm. See you tomorrow morning."
