Newborn baby of murdered missing 19-year-old found alive

A newborn baby was confirmed to be the son of a missing 19-year-old US woman, whose remains were discovered in a garbage can yesterday.

Marlen Ochoa-Uriostegui was nine months pregnant when she was reported missing in Chicago on April 23, after she failed to pick up her three-year-old son from day care that afternoon.

The young woman had organised to collect baby clothes from a woman she met on a Facebook group, "Help a Sister Out", which has since been closed.

The 46-year-old woman she met with in a southwest side home claimed to also be pregnant, neighbours reporting that they saw the woman later that day bloodied and holding an infant wrapped in a towel.

She claimed she had just given birth to the boy who wasn't breathing and emergency services were called, immediately rushing the baby boy to hospital, where it was later discovered that he had no brain function.

However on May 15 remains were discovered in a garbage can outside the 46-year-old woman's southwest side home where she met with Ochoa-Uriostegui, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office later confirming the remains to be those of the missing 19-year-old.

She was reportedly strangled to death and her unborn son was then cut from her body, DNA testing proving that the child in hospital was in fact Ochoa-Uriostegui's son.

Her death is considered a homicide, Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi stating: "We believe that she was murdered and we believe that the baby was forcibly removed following that murder."

Investigators are now speaking with several people from the southwest side home where the murder is thought to have occurred.

Ochoa-Uriostegui's son, named Yadiel Yovany Lopez by his father and Ochoa-Uriostegui's husband, Giovanni Lopez, is currently in hospital on life support.

“I have a lot of pain, a lot of anguish, a lot of sadness. I can’t anymore. It’s painful to lose your wife, the woman you love the most,” Lopez said according to Fox32.

"We’re gonna have justice with those responsible. We’re gonna go hard after them. We won’t let it go."
