Ben and Rebecca bought a new home. They had no clue they what was hiding behind an overgrown hedge in the backyard

New homeowners have made a very surprising discovering while tending to their overgrown garden in the backyard.

Ben and Rebecca purchased a property in Cornwall in the UK and noticed their dogs kept disappearing behind an overgrown hedge.

They had no clue what was on the other side until they started trimming it back.

In a video posted on their Instagram, Camel Cottage Renovation, Ben cut away at an over overgrown hedge in the backyard, first discovering an old Christmas tree.

But as he continued, he spotted a space, then a ladder, then a door.

It turned out he had located an extra room, a stone outhouse that had previously been concealed.

They later told Newsweek: "When we moved in, we noticed that the dogs kept disappearing under this overgrown hedge, and we didn't know what they were up to or where it led to."

They assumed it was "just a retaining wall or fence but wanted to make sure it was secure so that the dogs couldn't escape, and that there were no hidden hazards".

Now they know it is an extra bathroom, they are yet to test it out as "there's no cistern" to flush. They are considering making it into storage for the garden.

Viewers on their Instagram page were thrilled with the reveal.

"Love the slow reveal….and what a find!" one wrote. "Beautiful stone wall …and a small outhouse… Joy! (Slight downside….. birds have lost all of that nesting/roosting habitat)."

"The stone wall is gorgeous!! That would thrill me no end," wrote another.

One viewer said, "Love the stone wall and the mystery of it all! It was obviously a lot of work but worth it in the end - well done

"Glad you were taking care of your curious fur babies."

But another claimed they were "lucky" to have not made this discovery in Australia.

"God knows what you would have hiding in there."
