A man is now behind bars after he pushed a Kentucky mother off a 25m cliff, shortly before killing her five-year-old son.

Jessica Durham survived the fall in Daniel Boone National Forest on Friday, where she was found on Saturday morning by hikers.

This led to a mass two-day search for her son James Spoonamore, whose body was found on Monday morning about one kilometre away from where his mum last caught a glimpse of him as she was pushed.

Lonnie Belt, 41, has been charged with assault, kidnapping of an adult and murder, according to Jackson County Detention Center records seen by 9Honey. His bail appears to have been set at $1.5 million.

It’s alleged that Belt came to Durham’s house as she was getting ready to take James to the doctor for an appointment.

Belt, a family acquaintance, claimed Durham’s husband was at his place and insisted she go there and collect him.
