Mother-of-two arrested after allegedly abandoning kids in a park so she could get a tattoo

Ana Lisa Lara spent Saturday night behind bars after dropping her two young children at a park unaccompanied to go and get a tattoo.

The 28-year-old allegedly dropped her three-year-old and eight-year-old at Harleman Park in the city of Cornelius, in Oregon, US at around 5pm before making her way to a local tattoo parlour, Oregon Live reports.

When it started to rain, the kids took shelter in the public toilets where they were found by a family who walked in to use the facility at around 5.30pm.

Since the family didn’t know the children, they called the authorities.

"The children were frightened when it began to rain and hid in the park bathroom," said Sgt. Bob Ray, a spokesman for the sheriff's office said in a statement on their website.

Washington County police arrived at the scene approximately 20 minutes before the mother-of-two returned back to the park, around 6pm.

Ms Lara was arrested for  with two counts each of criminal mistreatment, child neglect and a single count of child endangerment.

Under Oregon law, leaving children under the age of 10 unaccompanied in a situation which could be harmful or dangerous to their health or welfare, is a criminal offence.

Ms Lara was released on Sunday after posting bail, which was set at $10,000.
