According to police in Florida, Kristen Leigh O’Connor, 27, and June Schweinhart, 28, purchased $AU75 worth of heroin before snorting it in an SUV at a parking garage.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found O’Connor unconscious and the two women’s babies, aged one month and two months, strapped into the back seat.

Footage of the incident, released by Boynton Beach Police Department, shows first attenders trying to calm the crying infants.

O’Connor and Schweinhart had met and bonded in a drug treatment program while they were both pregnant. Their babies were born four days apart.

The mothers told police they had bought the heroin from O’Connor’s previous dealer.

When O’Connor began to overdose, Schweinhart attempted to call 911 but she too began convulsing.

A stranger nearby had seen this unfolding, and was able to take the phone from Schweinhart and raise the alarm.

While the women received medical treatment in hospital, their babies were taken back to the Boynton Beach Police Department, where they were “snuggled for several hours”, a Facebook post explains.

They were eventually turned over to family members after being taken into custody by the Department of Children and Families.

“This is an incredibly tragic situation and ultimately, the ones most affected by this are those innocent, beautiful babies,” the Boynton Beach Police Department said on Facebook.

“We hope this serves as a wake up call for these moms, and that they seek further treatment for their addiction. We sincerely wish them all the best.”
