Monica Lewinsky's brilliant response to 'worst career advice' thread

Giving and receiving career advice could be a double-edged sword.

While most of us are seeking it, there is such a thing as bad advice, and we should always be wary of who we accept this advice from.

Viral Twitter threads, for example, are probably not the best place to start.

Especially not this viral tweet, in which author and psychologist Adam Grant shared the worst pieces of career advice he’s been given, and encouraged others to do the same:

While there were many other additions to the thread with other people's worst career advice, the reply that definitely takes the cake would be Monica Lewinksy's.

With a strong dose of self-awareness, she replied: "an internship at the white house will be amazing on your resume," followed by an embarrassed blushing-face emoji.

In 1998, it came to light that President Bill Clinton was having an "inappropriate" relationship with Lewinsky, who was then a 22-year-old White House intern.

The scandal resulted in a horrific amount of backlash on a global scale for Lewinsky.

It's not always easy to laugh at yourself, especially when it comes to your own misfortunes in the public sphere.

However, Lewinsky's particular brand of self-referential wit and humour — as illustrated by her tweet — is absolutely endearing, and we love her all the more for it.

Twitter users thought her sardonic response to the career advice thread was hilarious, replying with a plethora of amused gifs and emojis, as well as comments such as "we don't deserve you, Monica", and "Monica just shut down Twitter for the day".

In recent years, Lewinsky has become more outspoken about the Clinton scandal and the way she was treated, taking a strong stance against public shaming and bullying.

She has especially come out in force in the wake of the #MeToo movement, thankfully emboldened by the ongoing conversation surrounding sexual harassment and misogyny in the workplace.

Luckily, Lewinsky remains a bright light in the fight for zero tolerance policies on workplace harassment, and the message comes across even stronger for her wonderful sense of humour.
