A major US magazine uninvited Monica Lewinsky from an event because former US president Bill Clinton decided to attend.

The incident was first alluded to by Lewinsky, 44, in a series of tweets shared on Wednesday, and has since been corroborated by HuffPost.

“Dear world: Please don't invite me to an event (esp one about social change) and -- then after I've accepted-- uninvite me because Bill Clinton then decided to attend/was invited,” she wrote.

“It's 2018.”

Clinton, 71, attended the event to introduce Emma Gonzalez, gun control advocate and survivor of the Florida high school shooting that took place in February.

Through attendees of the summit, HuffPost confirmed Lewinski’s invitation had been retracted.

While Town and Country is yet to comment on the matter, Clinton’s press secretary shared a statement on Twitter.

“President Clinton was invited to address the Town & Country Philanthropy Summit,” Angel Ureña said.

“He gladly accepted. Neither he nor his staff knew anything about the invitation or it being rescinded.”
