Woman sparks heated debate with her controversial Facebook marketplace decision

A New York City woman has sparked a heated online debate after her controversial Facebook Marketplace move. 

Andrea shared a video to TikTok, explaining that one of her neighbours had been leaving free furniture up for grabs in the hallway of their apartment complex.

"Someone in my apartment doesn't know what Facebook Marketplace is," she explained. "I keep seeing free stuff laying around."

She continues to explain that she took a bookcase to keep for herself, and later came across a large desk and stunning picture frame in the hallway. 

"I was shocked by how pretty the frame was and why they weren't even attempting to sell the desk on Facebook Marketplace," she said. "And then I got the genius idea to do it myself.

"I put it on for $20, got a million requests for it, someone came and picked it up within two hours. So, to whoever is leaving their furniture out please feel free to continue doing so."

The comment section was divided as to whether Andrea's move was smart or unethical. 

"Imagine you're scrolling through fb marketplace and see the furniture you set outside for free 🤣🤣," commented one user, to which Andrea admitted, "I was a little nervous 😂."

Others argued that she should have sold the items for more money, and some mentioned that they also do the same thing, with one commenter saying, "I've been doing this for years and have made over 2k."

While plenty of users made the point that what Andrea was doing could be considered unethical, the most popular opinion was that Facebook Marketplace is just too much effort for some.

One user said, "I stopped selling stuff on FB marketplace because it's such a hassle. 800 'is this available?' messages and then 800 people ghosting. I have a life 😂"

"Some people don't want to go to the hassle of selling it or don't need the extra cash," another agreed. 

A third user mentioned that Andrea's choice to sell the free furniture on marketplace, actually worked out pretty well for both parties, "I love this b/c maybe they were too overwhelmed to sell it/didn't know where to donate it and you take that hassle off their back for them! :) win win."
