Hoyts slashes popular member perk: Movie tickets just got pricier for thousands of Aussies
The cost of seeing a movie is about to get more expensive for one group of Aussie cinemagoers.
Hoyts is reducing the movie ticket discount it gives to Hoyts Reward Members from 10 per cent to five per cent from March 24.
The cinema chain informed Hoyts Reward Members of the change via an email, which was shared with 2GB's Clinton Maynard.

"I'm a Hoyts Rewards member, I go to the movies every now and then with the family. I just got an email from Hoyts."
The email read: "We are writing to inform you of some changes to the HOYTS Rewards program.

"From March 24, 2026, HOYTS Rewards members on the free tier will receive 5 per cent off movie tickets."
The previous discount was 10 per cent.
"Seeing a movie is so expensive – it costs $28 for an adult and $22.50 for a child at Hoyts – so with the 5 per cent discount an adult ticket will be $26.60 instead of $25.20 with the previous 10 per cent discount," Sarah added.
A spokesperson for Hoyts told nine.com.au: "We notified members of our rewards program last week, in advance of changes that are taking place at the end of next month.
"We regularly review our rewards program to ensure it remains sustainable and continues to deliver value to members over the long term with meaningful everyday savings."
Hoyts offers two Hoyts Rewards tiers, standard and a VIP membership which cost $18 per year.
The free tier includes the movie ticket discount, a $12 Movie of the Week, the opportunity to earn Qantas points, $13 movie tickets for members aged 60 and over, the opportunity to earn Hoyts Points, free popcorn refills and birthday rewards.
