Supermarket with Australia's best meat has been named - and it's received nods eight years in a row

The supermarkets with Australia's best meat have been named.

Aldi Australia has once again been recognised as having the best supermarket meat in four out of six categories, including for its quality and value.

The discount grocery retailer went head-to-head with Costco in the popular shopper-rated categories for Canstar Blue's annual awards.

Aldi and Costco were both named Canstar's 2025 Most Satisfied Customers Award winners for supermarket meat.

Aldi received top ratings for chicken, lamb, fish, and seafood. Costco was the highest-rated for beef and pork.

Aldi are the only supermarket to be awarded a win in at least one meat category eight years in a row. Their chicken and lamb have been rated the best by shoppers for two years straight.

Canstar's survey asked over 3,000 shoppers to rate supermarkets on overall satisfaction, value for money, taste, and freshness across six categories of meat.

"The 2025 Canstar Blue Most Satisfied Customers Award Winners, Aldi and Costco, not only earned five stars for overall satisfaction in their respective categories, but significantly, also earned top ratings for value for money for their winning categories too," Canstar spokesperson Eden Radford said.

"This echoes customers' focus on finding a supermarket that offers satisfaction, without compromising on value."

Adrian Nel, Aldi Australia Group Buying Director, Meat and Seafood, said: "Being recognised as the best across four of the Canstar Blue Meat Award categories is particularly rewarding as they reflect the voice of our customers.

"Our shoppers never have to compromise between quality and affordability, by shopping at Aldi, they get both.

"Every item in our fresh meat range is carefully selected, locally sourced, and rigorously tested to meet the high standards our customers expect."

In September, Aldi was handed the Most Satisfied Customers Award for Supermarket Fruit and Vegetables according to Canstar, with a top rating of five stars for overall satisfaction as well as for value for money, freshness of produce, and variety.

CanstarBlue.com.au spokesperson, Eden Radford, said in a statement at the time: "Aldi has consistently earned top ratings from customers on overall satisfaction when it comes to fresh produce, an impressive feat that awarded the supermarket the Most Satisfied Customer Award for Supermarket Fruit and Vegetables for five consecutive years.

"Shoppers have also consistently rated Aldi five stars for value for money, and freshness of produce, proving the supermarket really is Aussies' pick of the bunch for buying fruit and vegetables."

Aldi Australia hasn't always been known for having the best fresh produce but has slowly built a reputation for having quality, affordable meats, fruits and vegetables over the past several years.

Despite these results, Aldi still only accounts for approximately nine per cent of the market share when it comes to supermarket shopping in Australia.

Woolworths and Coles continue to dominate, claiming 38 and 29 per cent respectively, according to the ACCC.

Metcash, which supplies independent retailers like IGA, has seven percent. Costco Australia has approximately four per cent, and independent retailers account for the remainder of the market share.

Although Aldi is widely acknowledged as having the most loyal grocery shoppers out of all of the supermarkets.

"I equate Aldi shoppers to Kia drivers," Brand Expert Dee Madigan, owner of creative advertising agency Campaign Edge, tells nine.com.au about Aldi shopper behaviour.

"They're almost like they're cultists. Even my husband's one of them. He's obsessed with Aldi steaks.

"I think it's that thing of feeling they were one of the first people to move away from the main supermarket, even though most people still shop at both [Aldi and a major supermarket such as Coles or Woolworths].

"So there's a pride in them being 'Aldi people'."

Costco customers are known to be equally loyal, and need to commit to an annual membership of $65 to shop in outlets.

Adding to this is the fact Aldi and Costco are primarily in store business, with the discount retailers offering limited delivery options, currently only via DoorDash.

Shoppers enjoy the full Aldi and Costco unique in-person experiences while doing their grocery shopping out of necessity.

In store shopping remains Australian consumers preferred way to grocery shop in 2025.

A recent Finder survey found majority of Aussie grocery shoppers (86 per cent) prefer to make their purchases in stores due to a desire for quality control.

This is also true of Coles, Woolworths and IGA shoppers, despite these three retailers having multiple delivery and pick up options.

The main reasons Australians shop in-store is their desire for quality control, with three in four (74 per cent) wanting to pick their own produce and two in five (41 per cent) wanting to select the best expiry dates.
