Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates officially meet their first grandchild

Exes Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates have officially met their first grandchild.

"I can't wait to watch you discover the world," 67-year-old Bill wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of himself holding the newborn baby girl, who is the daughter of Jennifer Gates and her equestrian husband Nayel Nassar.

Melinda, meanwhile, shared a heartfelt message of her own, focusing on Jennifer and Nassar's roles as first-time parents.

"There is nothing quite like holding your first grandchild 🥰," Melinda, 58, wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of her cradling her granddaughter.

"It seems like just yesterday I was holding Jenn at this age. Now she has a baby of her own – and I am bursting with pride watching her and Nayel step into their new role as parents."

Four weeks ago, Jennifer, 26, announced the arrival of her first child, writing on Instagram alongside a photo of she and Nassar, 32, cradling their baby: "sending love from our healthy little family 💓🙏🥰"

Jennifer also shared another snap of herself with her child hours after her parents posted theirs.

"🌸✨," she wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of her smiling down at her baby girl.

"Our sweet angel baby girl, we love her so much and are learning as parents every single day," Jennifer wrote on her Instagram Story.

It's unclear if Bill and Melinda went to visit their grandchild at the same time, though their photos were shared to social media simultaneously.

Bill and Melinda's divorce was finalised in August 2021 after 27 years of marriage.

Two months later, Jennifer and Nassar tied the knot at Jennifer's $US16 million (approx. $24 million) horse farm in New York, with their nuptials reportedly costing $US2 million (approx. $3 million).

The event was the first time Bill and Melinda had been seen together in public since their divorce. The former couple also share 23-year-old son Rory Gates and 20-year-old daughter Phoebe Gates.
