One wedding dress detail Bronte Campbell refuses to budge on when she ties the knot with Benfield Lainchbury

She's only been engaged for a few months, but Olympian Bronte Campbell has already decided on one non-negotiable when it comes to her wedding dress: sustainability.

In fact, sustainability will be front of mind when it comes to not just her wedding fashion, but where and how she hosts her nuptials with fiancé Benfield Lainchbury.

"When you get dressed in the morning every day, you've got the chance to express your values," she explains to 9honey in the Crown marquee on Oaks Day.

"And there's nothing bigger than your wedding to express who you are as a couple and who you are as a person so it'll definitely be part of it, but it'll also be a fun party as well."

She and Lainchbury aren't far into wedding planning yet, partly because they want to enjoy this honeymoon period. That hasn't stopped Campbell from indulging in some beautiful wedding ideas though.

"I'm in the really fun stage of wedding planning, where everything is a possibility," she says.

"I could go to Cape Town, I could go to Bali, I could go down to the southern highlands, like I go to Fiji. It's just like all blue sky thinking."

It's also hard to find time to plan a wedding when Campbell is so busy between her sporting career and running sustainable activewear brand Earthletica.

Being pulled in so many directions can make it hard to plan a wedding and the 30-year-old has already hit a few roadblocks, like accidentally double-booking her engagement weekend.

"How do I have time for it all? I don't. I forget things all the time," she confesses with a laugh.

"I don't want to portray a picture that I have it all together, because I definitely do not have it all together, but I've got beautiful people in my life that forgive me when I drop the ball."

It's a refreshingly honest answer from the 30-year-old, who spent the months leading up to the Olympic Games Paris 2024 focused solely on her performance in the pool.

While she was chasing gold in Paris, Campbell relied on her Earthletica business partners to keep the brand going and her loved ones to keep her grounded.

Since returning with another gold medal to her name, the swimmer has been devoting all her time and energy to her brand and finding more innovative ways to bring sustainable activewear to the Australian public.

In fact, she's so dedicated to the cause that she wore one of her own designs to Oaks Day; a first of its kind jacket made with plant fibres and featuring a waste-reducing tapeless zipper, which she paired with a chic Camilla and Marc skirt.

But sustainability isn't the only statement Campbell wanted to make with her ensemble.

"It is very different for Oaks Day, which is typically ladies day, so you think about florals and pastels. I wanted to show that there's like, a different side to being a lady," she says.

"Lady doesn't necessarily have to mean soft. Lady can mean a little bit structured. It can mean a bit bold."

Campbell adds, "Clothing is such a way of making a statement, either a political statement or a personal statement of your values and that's really what inspires me."
