On any given day, there’s no shortage of bizarre conspiracy theories circulating online.

But a new one concerning Melania Trump well and truly, uh, trumps them all.

In new images and footage taken during a press conference on Friday, the First Lady is seen standing beside her husband, eyes concealed behind a giant pair of sunnies.

WHO IS THIS WOMAN? (AAP)

So far, so normal, right?

Wrong, according to some eagle-eyed observers who reckon the woman next to Donald Trump isn’t his 47-year-old wife at all, but a body double - nay, a DECOY.

Take a moment to let that sink in.

According to these would-be detectives, the giveaway clue is all in the nose.

Look closely, they say, and you’ll notice this woman’s nose is a different size and shape to that of the Slovenian-born former model.

The president himself didn’t help matters, referencing Melania at one point in his address as, “My wife Melania, who happens to be right here.”

You have to admit, that is an awfully suspicious choice of words.

Ignoring the fact the woman was clearly Melania Trump - the photos of her without her shades on erase all doubt - let’s speculate wildly as to why she would have sent a body double in her place.

Perhaps she stayed up way too late the night before watching Netflix and couldn’t face a day in the sunlight.

Perhaps she and Donald had a major argument the morning of the doorstop and couldn’t bear being in one another’s immediate vicinity.

Perhaps she chucked a Ferris Bueller, telling White House staff she was "too sick" to fulfil her First Lady duties before sneaking out her window and treating herself to a wild day out in Washington DC.

OK, we can all agree this is Melania Trump, yeah? (AAP)

The possibilities are endless.

Incredibly, this isn’t the first time a politician has aroused suspicion of employing a decoy.

Just last year, conspiracy theorists were convinced Hillary Clinton had Theresa Barnwell, a well-known Clinton impersonator, stand in for her at an event during her presidential campaign.

There’s also a long-standing and somewhat sinister theory that Zimbabwe’s president Robert Mugabe died years ago and has been replaced by a body double.
