Dream job: Meet Meghan Markle's new aide, Amy Pickerill

Meghan Markle has a new Girl Friday, aide Amy Pickerill – the first official staffer to join the royal-to-be as she prepares for her wedding to Prince Harry on May 19.

As far as dream jobs go, this one isn't bad. Pickerill is reportedly responsible for all of the bits and pieces that go with keeping a royal life running smoothly, from organising Markle's diary (including, some are speculating, possible charity work) to reading correspondence and managing gifts.

More generally, her role is to be, quite literally, at Markle's side during events and appearances – to have her back if there's anything she needs.

Pickerill apparently made her first major public appearance with Markle and her fiancé in Cardiff in January. (You can see her to the right of Harry in the picture below: smiling and unflappable, like the very best kind of EA.)

But she had been spotted earlier, when a journalist from People magazine observed her holding flowers for Markle at a surprise public greeting.

And she comes well-qualified for the job. According to her LinkedIn profile, Pickerill studied history and broadcast journalism, and then worked for several years in communications at the British Treasury and Royal Bank of Scotland.

In September 2017, she joined the Office of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry as a 'Senior Communications Officer' before being pulled across to focus on Markle.

Then on Monday, Kensington Palace made it official when a spokesperson confirmed that Pickerill "will be working on Meghan Markle's programme", according to Express. 

But to all the aspiring royal aides, don't fear that this means you've lost your chance.

The Royal Household (which has a LinkedIn page!) is advertising right now. And even better (for those of us who don't happen to already have royal experience) it's an entry-level job.

The person who successfully lands the Communications Assistant gig will "organise coverage of set-piece Palace engagements including investitures and garden parties."

And apparently, "you'll also travel in the UK or overseas to support important visits and engagements."

Garden parties, jetsetting, "set-pieces" ... this sounds quite fun.
