Best Selfie: The photo that changed The Block judge Marty Fox's life
In 9Honey's weekly series Best Selfie, we present stars with memorable photos to see how they react.
Marty Fox is the new kid on The Block.
The charismatic new judge has had a big career in real estate, including being co-founder and director of WHITEFOX Real Estate.
Fox first came to the attention of Block fans as the auctioneer who sold Harry and Tash's house in Brighton (2020) and Rachel and Ryan's in Gisborne (2022).

But before becoming a household name in the world of property and design, Fox's journey began at a young age.
In this week's Best Selfie, he took us on a scroll down memory lane through some of his Instagram photos.

Fox's journey in real estate might not have been planned, but his early experiences shaped his path.
"That image is burnt in my mind," he reminisced, looking at image from his school days at Christchurch Grammar.

Life does come full-circle. Fox and his wife Charlotte live in the Melbourne suburb of Toorak with their three children Freddy, six, Olive, four, and Bonnie, one.
Freddy recently started school, also at Christchurch Grammar.
"It's quite nostalgic when you put your kids back into the school that you went to," he says.
Reflected on the "surreal feeling" of holding his firstborn child just two days after birth, Fox said, "You're responsible for this other thing that can't do anything for themselves."

"It's something that I'm very lucky to have experienced. Building a family and building a business with someone that you like hanging out with such as Charlotte. It's very cool."

He and Charlotte are seasoned property flippers, having renovated 12 properties over the past 15 years.
The couple also recently celebrated their upcoming 10th wedding anniversary.
"She thought I was a little bit obnoxious at the time [we met]." Instagram
He shared the story of how they met, recalling, "I was sitting at a pub in Saint Kilda, and my mate at the time said, 'You've got to meet this girl, Charlotte'. She thought I was a little bit obnoxious at the time."
But a proposal for a hamburger at Greasy Joe's changed his life forever.
"Since that hamburger, it's been on"

Fox's real estate career started to gain traction in the late '00s, especially in the art of auctioneering.
"I don't think anyone in real estate actually plans to be in real estate," he explains.
Fox's 15-year career in property has led him to a career change, as a new judge on The Block, alongside Neale Whitaker, Darren Palmer and Shaynna Blaze.
"I'm so lucky to have been given an opportunity to join people that I've watched for so many years and have really looked up to."
"It's nice to complement the skill sets of the existing judges, and talk about what the buyer is really thinking."

As The Block nears the end of the season, conversation turns to the upcoming Block Auction, and which couple will take out the top prize.
"I look for what is going to bring the most amount of money from a real estate perspective, and you can't go past square meterage and a northern-orientated floor plan."
"I think House Four and House Five really have those key fundamental real estate boxes ticked," Fox says.

House Four belongs to NSW couple Steph and Gian and House Five to Victorian sisters Eliza and Liberty.
However, Fox knows too well not to be bold with a prediction come this year's Block Auction. No one knows how the finale will play out and admits a lot of the result comes down to the reserves.

The Block keeps the reserves secret from the contestants and the public until the final days before the Auction.
As for what Fox thinks The Block should do for its upcoming 20th season in 2024: "They should have a challenge where contestants can win me as their auctioneer."
"Now, that would be a big prize!" he confidently laughs.
