A New York tech executive is suing his ex-fiance for the return of a dog called Blu, a $48,000 (AUD $58,000) engagement ring and expensive furniture.

Joe DiTomaso, 42, claims Jamie Cohen, 36, took the items when she moved out of their home.

The couple met in 2011 when Cohen came to work for DiTomaso's company All The Rooms, before becoming engaged two years later.

After the breakup, Cohen helped herself to the items she felt entitled to, including their beloved pet.

DiTomaso wants it all back, including Blu.

He also wants an additional $65,000 (AUD $81,000) in damages.

The lawsuit was filed in Manhattan Supreme Court in New York, with Daily News reporting DiTomaso has only seen the dog once since the breakup, in 2015.

"To date, none of DiTomaso's furniture, furnishings and possessions have been returned," the document states.

"DiTomaso owned the dog named Blue prior to the defendant moving in with him.
