An Israeli man has been killed and his wife seriously injured after a freak zip line accident in Honduras.
The newlyweds were on a cruise to celebrate their honeymoon when they decided to zip line over a treetop canopy near Roatan, the New York Post (NYP) translated from the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
The fatal accident that ensued saw Egael Tishman, 24, and Shif Fanken, 27, collide with each other in mid-air.
According to reports from the NYP, translated from La Prensa newspaper, Fanken became stuck on the zip line cable and Tishman crashed into her from behind.
“The girl stayed halfway on the cable and the guy came from behind and hit her,” a local firefighter Wilmer Guerrero told the newspaper.
Fankan was taken to a hospital immediately after the accident and then airlifted to a different facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she underwent surgery. She is believed to be in a stable condition.
The couple were visiting Roatan as part of a Royal Caribbean Cruises trip on the Allure of the Seas ship, Owen Torres, a spokesman for Royal Caribbean confirmed to The Washington Post.
The body of the deceased husband will be sent back to Israel for burial.
