You might remember the story 9Honey shared last month, about the 90-year-old US woman with a heart-breaking plea for friends.

The elderly lady left a handwritten note to her neighbours, asking if they would "consider to become my friend".

"I'm 90 years old - live alone. All my friends have passed away. I'm so lonesome and scared. Please I pray for someone."

Marleen Brooks, who discovered the note, went straight to her neighbour's home.

Speaking to Love What Matters earlier this week, Marleen offered an update to all of those invested in their story.

"Wanda and I are now great friends!" she said, adding "I visit her often and my kids bring her cookies."

"She knows anything she needs she can call me if I'm not there. She is an amazing person and I am blessed to have her."

After Marleen discovered the note pushed through her door in April, she shared it on social media to raise awareness for the elderly, who may be feeling lonesome.

The post was originally sent to local news anchor Frank Somerville but quickly went viral, with thousands of people asking how they can help.

Inspired by Wanda, Marleen started the Facebook group Pen Pals For Seniors, with almost 6,000 members already signing on in just the first few weeks.

After her first visit, Marleen says Wanda was grateful she came over, saying: "I hope you didn't think I was stupid for writing you, but I had to do something. Thank you so much for coming over. I've lived here for 50 years and don't know any of my neighbors."
