Woman arrested after allegedly killing nail worker over $35 manicure

A woman accused of killing a nail salon worker by running her down with a car has been arrested.

Krystal Whipple, 21, was allegedly attempting to flee the salon in Las Vegas without paying for her $35 manicure on December 29.

Salon worker Nhu "Annie" Ngoc Quynh Nguyen grabbed on to Whipple's car to stop her from leaving, but was run down by the accused. She later died of blunt force injuries.

Nguyen had followed Whipple to her car to ensure she'd pay for the manicure, after her credit card was declined several times. Whipple told the worker she'd get cash from the car but instead allegedly fled the scene.

Nguyen co-managed the business with her long-time partner, Sonny Chung, who also went outside to the car.

"My wife ran out and tried to stop her, and then [Whipple] rolled forward," Chung told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

It's alleged Whipple hit the 51-year-old mother-of-three and dragged her before fleeing the carpark.

Nguyen’s death was caught on video and ruled a homicide.

"I tried to hold the car back, but I’m not Superman," Chung said.

"She ran off for $35 and killed my wife — $35 to run my wife over."

Whipple was arrested in Arizona, without incident, by an FBI task force. She was wanted on murder, robbery and burglary charges.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the victim's family with funeral costs. On the page Nguyen is described as "an extremely hard working" woman and "dutiful mother who always put her children first".

She often worked 12-hour days, seven days a week, so she could pay for her daughters to attend college. Nguyen also helped financially support her mother, siblings and grandchildren.

Nguyen's daughters – who are all in their 20s – live in California but were in Las Vegas at the time of their mother's death.
