It’s no secret the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are big tennis fans, but the photos taken of the royal couple at Wimbledon are all the proof you need.

Watching the men’s singles final between Roger Federer and Marin Cilic, Kate and William were seen cheering - rather animatedly, it must be said - from courtside.

The Duchess, who recently stepped into the Queen’s former role as Wimbledon patron, looked right at home in a tennis-style white dress with a colourful floral print around the hem.

The 35-year-old’s sister Pippa Matthews and parents Carole and Michael were also in the audience, though evidently didn’t score an invitation to the prestigious Royal Box - unlike Bradley Cooper, Eddie Redmayne, Hugh Grant and Teresa May.

When they weren’t glued to the action on court, Kate and William were snapped laughing and joking around together.

In a new documentary about the UK tennis tournament, Kate described watching Wimbledon from courtside as “amazing”.

“The atmosphere is incredible, whether you’re sitting on Henman Hill or are fortunate enough to be in one of the Centre Courts,” she said.

“Every time Wimbledon is on I am thinking, ‘Yes, I could do the same’ and get out the racket. Sadly, never the same results.”

Well, that’s at least one thing we have in common with the Duchess of Cambridge.

After the match, the royals took a moment to congratulate Federer - a family friend of the Middletons, who attended Pippa's wedding to James Matthews earlier this year - on his victory.

Marin Cilic was brought to tears during a break in the final.

The Swiss player's win over Cilic was a historic one, making him the first male player to claim eight Wimbledon singles titles.
