'Mean-spirited': Kamala Harris responds to 'childless cat lady' jibe

Kamala Harris has weighed in on those 'childless cat lady' comments.

In a new appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Harris – who is a stepmother of two – has called the viral three-letter phrase "mean-spirited".

The term made headlines after and old clip of republican Vice President nominee JD Vance calling Harris a "childless cat lady" three years ago resurfaced online.

"I just think it's mean and mean-spirited," Harris said of Vance's jibe.

"I think that most Americans want leaders who understand that the measure of their strength is not based on who you beat down.

"The real measure of the strength of a leader is based on who you lift up."

The term 'childless cat lady' has made headlines the last few months after Vance's interview went viral and had stars like Taylor Swift and Jennifer Anniston weight in.

Swift signed off her endorsement post of Harris with the three-letter phrase.

In the same episode, Harris addressed a recent comment about being 'childless' made by Arkansas Govenor Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Last month at a rally, Sanders said her kids "keep me humble" and Harris "doesn't have anything keeping her humble".

"I don't think she understands that there are a whole lot of women out here who one, are not aspiring to be humble," Harris responded.

"Two, a whole lot of women out here who have a lot of love in their life, family in their life, and children in their life. And I think it's really important for women to lift each other up."

Harris then spoke about her "modern family" not just being defined by biology.

"We have our family by blood, and then we have our family by love, and I have both, and I consider it to be a real blessing," she said.

Harris is the stepmother to her husband Doug Emhoff's children Cole, 30, and Ella, 25.

The Vice President married Emhoff in 2014.

"They are my children, and love those kids to death," she said on the podcast.

She also spoke about being friends with Emhoff's ex-wife, Kerstin.

"This is not the 1950s anymore. Families come in all kinds of shapes and forms."
