Joe Biden is a first-time great-grandfather as granddaughter Naomi welcomes first child

US president Joe Biden is officially a first-time great-grandfather!

Joe's granddaughter Naomi, 31, has welcomed her first child with husband Peter Neal, two months after announcing she was expecting.

First lady of the United States, Jill Biden, shared a photo of her and her husband holding their new great-grandson to social media on Thursday morning (Australia time).

"We are proud to introduce you to our great-grandson: William Brannon Neal, IV," she captioned the heartwarming post on Instagram.

In the photo, Joe is adorably cradling his great-grandson William in his arms while his wife Jill dotes over the newborn.

The post was inundated with messages of congratulations to the Biden family.

The US president first announced the exciting family update while speaking in a Los Angeles press conference regarding the ongoing California wildfires.

"The good news is I'm a great-grandfather as of today," he reportedly said.

Naomi announced in November her and husband Peter Neal were expecting their first child together after two years of marriage.

The 31-year-old shared the news with a picture of her noticeable baby bump posted to her Instagram story around the time of the US presidential election.

In the mirror selfie, Naomi had an "I voted" sticker stuck to her belly.

"(We) voted," she captioned the snap.

Naomi is the eldest daughter of Hunter Biden and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle. Hunter is one of Joe's four children.

The US president shares three children with his late first wife Neilia.

Along with Hunter, the couple had daughter Naomi and son Beau, both of whom died.

Joe also has a daughter Ashley with his second wife Jill.

From his four children, Joe has seven grandchildren.

The president was present at his oldest granddaughter Naomi's wedding in 2022. Naomi and Neal tied the knot on the White House South Law – the historic ceremony was the first White House wedding held for a grandchild of the current US president.

Joe posed beside his granddaughter in heartwarming photos from the big day.

"Congratulations Naomi and Peter! We love you," Jill captioned a photo of her and Joe with the newlyweds on Instagram.

Naomi stunned on her wedding day in a gorgeous Ralph Lauren traditional white dress.

"There's just such beauty and history in this place, and we really wanted to honor that," she told Vogue about marrying at the White House.

According to the outlet, only 19 weddings have been held at the venue.
