Jessica Chastain speaks out against all-white photo shoot

Jessica Chastain has responded to criticism over her participation in an all-white magazine cover claiming to represent "a shift in focus".

The American actress appears on the cover of the Los Angeles Times alongside Annette Bening, Margot Robbie, Diane Kruger, Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet

Each are incredible, white actresses.

As an outspoken advocate for diversity, Chastain was targeted on Twitter over the clear lack of diversity on the cover, with African American media commentator Rebecca Carroll commenting, "Honestly @jes_chastain as an outspoken voice for equality how do you pose for a photo like this and not feel absolutely mortified by the blatant exclusion?

"How is it possible not to understand the msg this photo sends?"

To which Chastain eventually responded, "Its a sad look that there's no WOC in this pic of us promoting our female lead films. The industry needs to become more inclusive in its storytelling.

No other actresses featured on the cover have responded to the criticism.

The 2016 Oscar nominations triggered a #oscarssowhite social media movement over the lack of diversity.
