Ivanka Trump welcomes new ‘sister’ Karlie Kloss to the family

Ivanka Trump has taken to Instagram to express her joy at gaining a new sister in Karlie Kloss.

The 36-year-old daughter of US president Donald Trump, who this week closed down her fashion brand, welcomed the famous supermodel to the family by commenting on Karlie's Instagram post announcing her engagement to Josh Kushner.

"So, so happy for you and Josh," Ivanka wrote in the comments section of Kloss' post.

"I feel blessed to have you as a sister (!!!) Karlie and look forward to the decades of happy memories we will create together as a family!"

The unlikely duo will technically become sisters in law when Kloss, 25, and Kushner wed.

Kushner's brother Jared – who works as a senior adviser in the White House – is married to Ivanka.

It's been a big week for the First Daughter, who on Tuesday announced she was folding her eponymous fashion label.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed the decision in a statement, saying it "has nothing to do with the performance of the brand and is based solely on Ivanka's decision to remain in Washington [D.C.] indefinitely”.

The mother of three, along with her husband and kids Arabella, Theodore and Joseph, relocated to the United States capital after her father moved into the White House.

"My focus for the foreseeable future will be the work I am doing here in Washington," she said in the statement.

"So, making this decision now is the only fair outcome for my team and partners.

"I am beyond grateful for the work of our incredible teams who has inspired so many women; each other and myself included.

"While we will not continue on our mission together, I know that each of them will thrive in their next chapter."

Meanwhile, for those of you wonder who Josh Kushner is - he's a 33-year-old American businessman investor.

The pair have been dating since June 2012.
